Take the train

Gatwick Airport is located 45.7 km (28.4 miles) south of Central London.

If you are planning to travel by car, coach, or taxi, bear in mind that it takes approximately 60-90 minutes to get to central London from Gatwick Airport.

The roads between Gatwick and Central London are not motorway/freeway standard but wind through the suburbs with traffic lights making for a tedious stop, start journey.

A taxi or coach transfer from Gatwick Airport to Central London is not very popular with passengers. The roads as such that the fastest transfer takes one hour, often much, much more.

Transfers by vehicle will be highly variable in time and is highly dependent on traffic congestion and destination in Central London. 60-90 minutes is typical.

Gatwick Express train is much faster and cheaper.

London Congestion Charge

Driving in and around Central London means that you have to pay the Congestion Charge. You may be eligible to pay the congestion charge if you are travelling in central London between the hours of 7am and 6pm Mon – Fri. The charge is £8 daily, and you will be notified by signs when you are approaching CC zones, are within them and exiting them.

Take luggage into consideration

If you are planning to travel with a bus or coach, some of them have a policy in place which states that there are prohibited items that they will not carry.

These are mostly large items, such as skis, non folding pushchairs, wheelchairs etc... but also include animals. It is best to check that your luggage will be permitted before booking.
