The Met Office are advising that heatwave conditions are forecast for parts of England and Wales with temperatures expected to remain high until at least Saturday 27 June.
The hot weather is set to be widespread over England and Wales, and highs of up to 38°C are possible in some areas this week. There are red and amber weather warnings in place for extreme heat covering parts of England and Wales until Saturday 27 June. Yellow weather warnings have also been issued for Thunderstorms in parts of England, Wales and Scotland today, and on Friday 26 June.
Customer advice:
Customers travelling to, from or within areas affected by extreme heat should only travel if their journey is absolutely necessary on Thursday and Friday.
The Met Office has issued a red extreme weather warning for large parts of southern England for today, Thursday 25 June. An amber warning remains in place for Friday 26 June.
Temperatures are expected to rise significantly, with forecasters warning that June’s all-time daily temperature record could be broken.
Passengers in affected areas should only travel if absolutely necessary. All other passengers should check their journey carefully before setting off.
Rail services will continue to run but will be reduced in some parts of the network, customers should expect disruption across some routes. For safety reasons, trains will operate at reduced speeds and to amended timetables, meaning journeys will take longer and there is a heightened risk of delays, last-minute alterations and cancellations. There will be no rail replacement bus / taxi services during this period.
Customers who do need to travel are strongly advised to prepare for the conditions by bringing plenty of water, wearing sunscreen and a hat, and ensuring that they have a back-up plan in case of disruption. If you begin to feel unwell, please seek assistance at the next station or speak to a member of station staff. For your safety, you re kindly asked to avoid using the emergency alarm between stations, as this may delay access to support
Current service amendments:
Southern (north of London):
Trains which usually run between East Croydon and Watford Junction in either direction will be cancelled.
This will affect trains from 12:00 until end of day today and on Friday 26 June.
The following stations will not be served by Southern trains:
- Imperial Wharf
- West Brompton
- Kensington (Olympia)
- Shepherds Bush
- Wembley Central
- Harrow & Wealdstone
- Watford Junction
If you are travelling to or from these stations from 12:00, you can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on:
- London Northwestern Railway between London Euston and Watford Junction
- London Overground services on routes as follows:
- Between London Euston and Watford Junction for Wembley Central and Harrow & Wealdstone
- Between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction for Imperial Wharf, West Brompton, Kensington (Olympia) and Shepherds Bush
- London Underground services on any reasonable route, including routes via:
- London Euston
- The Central line for Shepherds Bush
- The Bakerloo line for Wembley Central and Harrow & Wealdstone
- The Jubilee line for Stanmore and a bus connection to Watford Junction on London Bus 142
Southern (south of London):
From 10:00 on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June, the following services will be cancelled, or altered until the end of the day.
- Brighton to Southampton Central services in both directions
You will need take a service to Portsmouth & Southsea, changing there for South Western Railway or Great Western Railway services to Southampton Central.
- Barnham to Bognor Regis shuttle services in both directions
You will need to use alternative Southern services to complete your journey.
- London Victoria to Bognor Regis / Portsmouth & Southsea services will run Bognor Regis only, and will not continue on to Portsmouth & Southsea. Please change at Barnham for alternative Southern services to complete your journey
- London Victoria to Ore services in both directions will run between Eastbourne and Ore only
Please change at Eastbourne for alternative Southern services to Ore. There will be a reduced service between London Victoria and Eastbourne, and Plumpton will have a reduced service.
If you are travelling to or from these stations from 10:00, you can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on:
- Alternative Southern services between London, Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea
- Great Western Railway between Portsmouth & Southsea, Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central
- South Western Railway between Portsmouth & Southsea, Portsmouth Harbour and Clapham Junction

Gatwick Express:
Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Brighton will be suspended from early afternoon until the end of service today and tomorrow.
The last services to run in each direction are:
- 12:29 London Victoria towards Brighton
- 12:39 Brighton towards London Victoria
Thameslink / Great Northern:
- Great Northern services between Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross will run between Kings Lynn and Cambridge only today and on Friday 26 June
- There may also be reduced services to / from London during the commuter peak times
- There is a speed restriction between Haywards Heath and East Croydon

Please note: the on-going disruption between Bedford and Luton is separate to any hot weather related service disruption. A rail replacement bus service will still be in operation between Bedford and Luton for essential travel only.
No other rail replacement buses will be in operation across any other part of the network.

The Met Office has issued the rare red weather warning for large parts of southern England for today 25th June. An Amber warning is in place on Friday, 26 June. It is strongly advised to travel only if it is absolutely necessary.
Operators advise if you need to travel, to travel early mornings or late evenings to avoid the peak heat during the day.
If you hold a ticket for travel on Tuesday 23 June, Wednesday 24 June, Thursday 25 June or Friday 26 June, you can use it instead to travel up to and including Tuesday 30 June.
Unused Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express tickets dated Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24, Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June will be eligible for a full, fee-free refund from where you bought your ticket.
